Inspired by book and fiber artist Jody Alexander, you are invited to drop into the makerspace and create your own accordion book. You will learn how to fold and glue pages to create twelve spaces, one for each month of the year.

Join book and fiber artist Jody Alexander (on view in Stitches & Wiggles) at NUMU for an afternoon of learning all things mending. In this 3-hour workshop, the artist will teach a variety of mending techniques. Mending techniques are used to repair and strengthen garments and other textile items. But, when left visible, the repairs are also decorative and add texture, line, color, and can be quite charming! The techniques can also be used in paper and textile art pieces.

Travel back to the 1960s and design your own paper doll with fashions inspired by NUMU’s exhibition I Know A Place. Using cut pattern paper and colored pencils, mix and match outfits in this drop-in activity located in the MakerSpace.

Give old books new life and celebrate what makes you unique! We will meet at NUMU for a tour of work by book and fiber artist Jody Alexander in Stitches & Wiggles. Then, we will re-purpose discarded book pages into self-portrait collages.
Join local artist John Paul Amaral for a beading circle and conversation on its significance in Native American Indigenous cultures. John Paul will introduce students to methods of beadwork to create a traditional hairpipe choker necklace. While creating their own treasures, the beading circle will host a conversation about the significance of beadwork in American Indigenous cultures, how the art expanded over time, and its place in living history.

Join us at NUMU to celebrate the opening of Salon Jane: Resonance, featuring new works of traditional, alternative process, digital, and mixed media photographic art. The works in this exhibition highlight the innovation and collective wisdom that emerge from this unique artistic group.

This Free First Sunday, enjoy a tour by exhibiting artist Jody Alexander of her work in Stitches & Wiggles: Unraveled and Reimagined Mixed Media Art by Jody Alexander and Thomas Campbell. Jody Alexander is a book, fiber, and mixed media artist who includes textiles, objects, wall pieces, garments, and installations in her art practice. Her work is inspired by the art of repair, reuse, and by the imagery and stories encountered in her travels on the ground and in the water.
In this 3-hour workshop led by exhibiting artist Jody Alexander, you will learn how to create your own hand-printed fabric! You are invited to bring something from home to embellish (pants, dress, shirt, tablecloth, curtain, etc.) You will also design your own set of two dish towels with your stencils.
Join NUMU this March to commemorate Irish-American Heritage Month through the cultural art of Celtic knots. The diversity of Celtic knots throughout woven, rock-carved, painted, and printed works is a timeless and ongoing practice. Visitors will be able to use pipe cleaners to make three types of Celtic knots: the triquesta, heart, and dara knots.

Our drawing badge workshop helps Junior Girl Scouts learn the basics of drawing, explore different drawing tools, and discover a little bit about graphic design!
